International Trade Workshops

Topics: four separate topics, each topic a session. The four major topics are:

1. Marketing and sales in Canada
Main sales channels and forms of distribution in Canada, how to find leads, how to find sales agents suitable for your products, dos and don¡¯t dos in contacting Canadian companies and the like.

2. Finding Export Products in Canada
This course will give an overview of the Canadian export market with an emphasis on its top export industries. It will explore which Canadian exports are best suited for trade with China and how to contact Canadian companies that have export potential in China. Students will be provided with useful resources and contact information for key trade organizations as well as Canada¡¯s leading industry associations.

3. Business writings
This workshop explores the best practices and styles of business communication. Students will be given examples of professional and effective business writing (including sample letters and proposals). The course will discuss the importance of cultural etiquette in Canadian business writing and how to communicate your message to different audiences. Students will also be taught how to conduct an effective business meeting with Canadian businesses and how to follow-up after a meeting.

4. Shipping, customs, tariff, and other taxes
Import/export related shipping, customs clearance, tariffs, GST and logistics.
  • Time length of study: four 2-hour sessions, totaling 8 hours.
  • Class times: Monday 6-8, Thursday 6-8, and Saturday 10-12
    Each group will have its class at the same time of the week for four consecutive weeks, each class 2 hours.
  • Start date: From December 1, 2001 on, a class will begin after 9 people are enrolled.
  • Language: English.
  • Class size: 9 trainees for each group.
  • Materials of study: some handouts distributed in class.
